Walks, sports and tasty treats: Orchard teams raise money for Dementia Action Week!

11 June 2025 News

This year for Dementia Action Week, our wonderful care homes and central teams raised vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society, a leading charity which helps provide support, information and research for dementia and people living with dementia. We were blown away by the creativity of some of the homes and loved seeing their impressive fundraising ideas come to life.

Chrissie and Ryan eating pizza for charity challenge

Starting at Paddock Stile Manor Dementia Care Home, carer Chrissie faced local Tiktok star and food personality Ryan Robinson in a fun, friendly pizza-eating competition! It’s safe to say that the challenge was no easy feat but the home raised around £150 for Dementia Action Week, which is just incredible.

“We enjoyed taking part in Dementia Action Week and we filled the week with lots of different fundraising activities, from bag-packing in the local shops to hosting a charity car wash! We’re already thinking of plans for next year” added Activities Coordinator Adele.

Donna and residents at Lofthouse take party in charity walk

Several homes opted for some fresh air outside and organised sponsored walks in the local area, such as Lofthouse Grange & Lodge Care Home in Wakefield. Although the team members’ efforts were impressive enough, it was particularly inspiring to see lots of the residents take part in the outdoor walk.

Another home which saw residents and team members getting active was Cherry Trees Care Home in Rotherham. With activities such as hoop throwing, frisbee and egg and spoon races, everybody got involved in a fantastic sponsored sports day!

Home Manager Sharron told us: “We'd like to thank everyone that donated and came to our fundraising events from our bake off to sports day, sponsored walks and waxing. One of our lovely residents Sheila even dyed her hair red for the cause! We had a fun packed week.”

Certain homes chose instead to fundraise with several smaller-scale activities, such as selling homemade decorations or getting crafty with forget-me-not themed bookmarks and badges. One home which managed to raise an incredible £188 thanks to their creativity was Eaton Court Nursing Home in Grimsby. Well done team!

Meanwhile, at Three Bridges Nursing Home in Warrington, the team combined their love of music with their fundraising efforts and incorporated an exciting visit from Al at ‘Music in Mind’. They had an impressive raffle at the same time which raised £113!

Home Administrator, Wendy, told us: “We had such a vibrant day with Al, which everybody could enjoy. Whether sitting in the lounges with friends or being serenaded in their own rooms, everyone had the best time!”

Archers Park relatives enjoying afternoon tea for charity

Archers Park Care Home in Sunderland raised funds as one big family, inviting relatives and friends to the home for a charity afternoon tea. The sun was shining, spirits were high and £310 was raised for Alzheimer’s Society – what an absolutely magnificent achievement!

Overall, we are so impressed with each and every single team across the regions as they showed their creativity, their good hearts and their dedication to making a difference - well done everyone!
