An afternoon of reminiscence through song was on the menu for residents of Lansbury Court in Sunderland recently, as the home welcomed local entertainer Andy James. Singing from a repertoire of songs from the always popular swinging sixties, Andy had residents of the 55-bed home on their feet dancing the afternoon away. To finish off the vibrant performance, Andy sang a variety of requests, including resident Susan’s choice: Bryan Adams’ 80s smash hit, ‘summer of ’69’. Susan commented, “Summer of ’69 is my all-time favourite song, as it is so energetic and brings back many fond memories for me. It was brilliant to see it performed live, and Andy did a phenomenal job.” Home Manager Suzanne McKie commented, “Music is a key feature of the activities provision at Lansbury Court, helping to encourage socialisation, and keeping active. Musical activities also function as a starting point for reminiscence, and discussion of happy memories. “The home regularly hosts a range of local entertainers, and trips out to see musicals at the theatre Royale in Sunderland are always a popular choice.” To keep up to date with news from the home, follow us on Facebook and YouTube.
