It’s Silent Disco time at Nesfield Lodge!
Our wonderful residents have many different hobbies they enjoy; from horse riding to reading and swimming to football, it’s safe to say our people know what they like – and dislike! But for the people at Nesfield Lodge Dementia Care Home, their combined love for music has proven time and time again that music really is the key to our residents’ hearts.
Residents recently enjoyed a silent disco in the comfort of their own home, thanks to a great initiative from Activity Co-Ordinator, Paige. The silent disco, hosted by Pete Goldup, used wireless headphones to unite our music lovers across both floors of the care home. Pete also provided everything they could need for a boogie, including wigs, headphones and oversized sunglasses!
Dancing queens, rock fans and disco divas alike came together for the love of music, with a variety of hits played throughout the day. Michael, resident at Paisley Lodge Care Home, also joined the celebration alongside Activity Co-Ordinator, Liz. “The day was absolutely brilliant” said Liz. “We were invited to take part in the silent disco by Sarah, and I knew straight away that Michael would love it. What a fantastic experience – we can’t wait to host our own silent disco!”
The wireless headphone provided an accessible option for residents who preferred to listen to music in their personal space, while also allowing those who wanted to dance and have fun with friends to do so in the communal lounge.
“A silent disco is perfect for our people as they can listen wherever they are” said Paige, who organised the event. “Hosting events that are accessible for everyone is vital to ensuring all residents can enjoy the same experiences whilst living at Nesfield.”
As a dementia-friendly care home, Nesfield Lodge has seen firsthand the power of music for people living with dementia, with many of their residents enjoying sing-a-long’s to classics from the likes of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. “It’s so magical watching people come to life when the music starts playing! It starts with a little tap of the foot and quickly progresses to a full on dance marathon.” said Sarah, Acting Home Manager at Nesfield Lodge.
First held in April, the silent disco was so popular amongst residents that not only did Nesfield Lodge host their 2nd event in August, but DJ Pete will also be visiting Castleford Lodge Nursing Home in October.
Thank you to Sarah and Paige for organising such a fun and memorable event for our residents – it’s great to see people come together and enjoy quality time with friends and loved ones!
