From Parking Spaces to First Places: Louise’s Car Park Marathon

Green Park’s Summer Fair this year was a wonderful, successful day filled with delicious food and refreshments, a vast array of markets and happy, warm smiles amongst the residents and their relatives. It marked a celebration not only of the end of another fantastic season at our nursing home in Warrington, but also of Head Housekeeper, Louise, and her Car Park Marathon!

Louise took it upon herself to run the entire distance of a marathon, which equates to an impressive 26.2 miles, within the boundaries of the nursing home car park. What’s more, she completed this in an outstanding time of 3 hours 48 minutes – well done Louise!

The whole team at Green Park work hard all year round to ensure that residents are constantly engaging in different activities and aim to get everybody involved in all that Green Park has to offer, and Louise’s marathon challenge was no exception.

Louise chose to complete her challenge mostly within the confines of the Green Park car park because she wanted to involve the residents and families in her triumph. Activities Coordinator Lisa stated that: “Louise’s challenge really added to the fun and excitement of the day – she had lots of our residents watching and cheering her on from the sidelines as well as many of the family members. It brought us all together and reminded us of the tight-knit community we have built here at Green Park.”.

Escaping briefly from the car park, Louise also ran her final couple of miles around the streets of the local neighbours, and they too were clapping and encouraging her on as she ran by. It is a prime example of how our teams at Orchard Care Homes go above and beyond in their efforts to create a warm and friendly place for all of our people to live in, as well as a real sense of belonging.

Everyone is incredibly proud of what Louise achieved. Home Manager, Laura, gifted her some flowers, wine and a heartwarming card and the Activity Team gave her a medal as a symbol of her accomplishments. Thank you to Louise and to all of the team at Green Park for their hard work and for planning fantastic events all year round for everyone to enjoy.
