Performance of Puppetry is a Hit at Sunderland Home

A performance of singing and dancing puppets entertained residents at Lansbury Court in Sunderland recently, with songs from the 1950s and residents joining in the fun. Activity Coordinator Christine Callaghan came up with the idea of inviting the puppeteers in, after wanting to offer residents something a bit different from their usual musical programme.   She commented, “Puppetry is a traditional form of entertainment that everyone is familiar with. Being in Sunderland, most of us can remember seeing Punch and Judy on the beach at one time or another.” The puppets proved very popular with residents, with one commenting, “I don’t think I’ve had so much fun in a long time. I was dancing and laughing all afternoon.” Christine added, “Musical entertainment offers an extremely effective way of giving quality to our residents’ lives, particularly those living with dementia.
