Paisley Lodge Care Home opens Orchard Care Homes' first Reconnect Mental Health Care community
Orchard Care Homes are extremely proud to announce that Paisley Lodge Care Home in Leeds has become the first in the group to offer specialist mental health care for older people.
Already recognised for its Reconnect Dementia Care, Paisley Lodge has opened its newest Reconnect community, which provides specialist mental health care for people aged 65 and over. The first of its kind, this groundbreaking care model is specifically tailored to older people living with mental health conditions, who are all too often unable to receive the right level of care to suit their needs. Now, older people who live with complex mental health conditions can access person-centred care tailored, to their individual needs.
The community was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Dan Cohen, in early December, with a number of representatives from the Local Authority, health professionals and fellow care home managers joining them for the big day.
Given a tour by Home Manager, Craig Chatburn, Councillor Cohen and his wife were more than impressed by the warm and cosy environment our Reconnect community offers. “I genuinely wish you all the best of luck for the next chapter,” said Councillor Cohen after he cut the ribbon to officially open the community. “Reconnect Mental Health Care is a fantastic service, and I have no doubt it will serve the local community well.”
Craig, who became home manager in 2025, has extensive experience in mental health care and was overjoyed to be the first care home in the group to offer this specialist type of care. “I joined the adult care sector in 1999, so all too familiar with the urgent need for mental health care for older people. I have full confidence that Reconnect Mental Health Care will pave the way for better care for older people with a mental health condition, and I’m honoured to be part of the positive change!”
Who will benefit from a mental health community in Leeds?
Our latest Reconnect community is specifically designed to support older people with a range of mental health conditions, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Delirium
- Bipolar disorder
- Psychosis
- Substance use disorders
As the first care group to offer this specialist type of care in the UK, Hayden Knight, CEO, told us how proud he is to offer this brand-new, holistic approach to mental health care: “This launch marks an important milestone for Orchard, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone whose hard work and commitment made it a reality.
