Green Lodge on Ice: A Christmas wish come true
The Green Lodge team recently took a very exciting trip to Billingham Forum for some fun on the rink. With their ice skates at the ready, they joined other care homes from the area for a perfect festive afternoon.

Residents Stan, Pippa, Jen and Pasquale were able to enjoy all the fun and thrill of ice-skating from the comfort of their rink-friendly chairs, thanks to pupils from St. Michael’s Catholic Academy who guided the residents around the ice.
At our dementia friendly care home, Activities Coordinator Clair is always looking for new activities for the home to get involved in. With carers Natalie and Chidibere by her side, she was so pleased she was able to make a Christmas wish like this one come true for these adventurous ladies and gents.
“I absolutely love finding unique events in the local community which we can go along to and as soon as I saw this one, I knew that some residents would just absolutely love to get back on the ice. The smiles on their faces showed me I was right!”
With excellent support from Clair and the team, as well as some more experienced ice skaters supporting the day, the residents were able to go at quite some speed – residents Stan and Pasquale even had a race with each other!
Resident Pippa had previous experience from her younger days and used to love ice-skating; this was a Christmas dream come true for her to be able to feel the joy of the sport once again.
Pasquale’s daughter Maria went along for the trip and was over the moon to see her father having such a great time!
Another resident excited about the trip was Stan, he wasn’t sure if he’d love his experience on the ice but always likes to try new things. To his surprise, he loved every second of it and was constantly asking to go faster.
Thanks so much to Clair and the team for making such an amazing event possible for the residents to enjoy this Christmastime. If you’d like more information on Green Lodge Care Home, which offers residential care, residential dementia care and short-term respite care, then take a look here.
