Orchard Care Homes Celebrates National Carers Week
Monday 11th to Friday 17th June was National Carers Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK. Many homes marked the week by hosting a range of activity sessions and events, aimed at celebrating the important work that carers across the Company do, with a theme of ‘caring for the carer’. In West Yorkshire, Castleford Lodge residents made a range of fridge magnets for staff, to thank them for the work they do, with residents from Green Lodge in Teesside doing the same. Elsewhere in the North East, care staff at Archers Court in Sunderland, got involved with armchair exercise classes with residents, before enjoying a healthy fruit banquet, and smoothies to drink. Across the road at Archers Park, staff also took part in an exercise class, as well as joining residents for cupcakes and reminiscence as part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Dementia Cupcake Day.’ Meanwhile, nearby, at Paddock Stile Manor, residents created a display board for the home, containing each Care Assistant’s name, and handed out thank you cards. In the Midlands, staff at Loxley Court in Sheffield were treated to Afternoon Tea with residents, while at Eckington Court in Derbyshire, the home hosted a garden party, complete with live entertainment. Over in Lancashire, Fleetwood Hall hosted its own Dementia Cupcake Day, inviting residents from another nearby home, whilst the team at Langfield Care Home got involved with a surprise golden wedding anniversary, and residents at Penwortham Grange & Lodge held a presentation ceremony for those staff members who had gone above and beyond, awarding them prosecco and shopping vouchers as a way of thanks. In Merseyside, residents at Lymewood Court gave each member of staff a gift, as well as a thank you card, and residents at Thornton Hall & Lodge pinned up notices and balloons around the home to celebrate staff. Group Head of Sales and Marketing at Orchard Care Homes, Tracey Tomlinson says, “Our care staff are at the heart of the Company, not only supporting residents with their day-to-day needs, but also working to ensure that they lead enriching lives, whilst maintaining strong links with the communities they were once key members of. “We are delighted to have taken part in this campaign, which has been an opportunity to celebrate and champion the amazing staff we have working for us, and we look forward to taking part again next year.” To keep up to date with news from Orchard Care Homes, follow us on Facebook and YouTube.
