Love was in the air at Langfield Care Home in Greater Manchester recently, as resident Mary and her husband Roy, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. The couple, who grew up locally, met when Mary asked Roy for a ride on his motorbike. For the happy couple it was ‘love at first bike’, and over their married life, they have enjoyed holidaying in a variety of places, from nearby Blackpool, right down to Cornwall, where they owned a bungalow together. Roya and Mary celebrated the milestone anniversary with a meal of Mary’s favourite dish, gammon and chips, organised by Unit Manager Viv Daly. For dessert, the couple enjoyed a slice of cake that had been delivered by Mary’s daughter, before exchanging cards, only to discover they had bought the same card for one another, much to their amusement. Unit Manager Viv said, “It was an honour to be able to be involved in Roy and Mary’s special day, and it is moments like these that are what my job is all about. For someone like Mary who is living with dementia, evoking her happy memories are incredibly important, and what happier memory to have than falling in love, it was absolutely lovely to see her smiling the whole day through.”  Roy commented, “It was a lovely experience, and I am very grateful for the gesture.” To keep up to date with news from the home, follow us on Facebook and YouTube.
