Lansbury Court Care Home opens dementia-specialist Reconnect community

Orchard Care Homes are extremely proud to announce that Lansbury Court Care Home has opened their first Reconnect community, offering specialist care for people living with dementia.

Rated ‘Good’ by CQC, Lansbury Court Care Home has become the latest in the group to adopt our person-centric, therapeutic approach to dementia care. Based in Sunderland, this new dementia-specialist community offers genuine inclusion by supporting residents to remain independent, engaged and most importantly: happy.

Marlena Derda, Home Manager of the Sunderland care home, said how she’s excited to offer this specialist level of care. “Having cared for people living with dementia for much of my career, being able to offer this enhanced level of care is something I’m incredibly proud of. Now, our team are able to provide unparalleled support and help our residents truly thrive in their new surroundings.”

The home-away-from-home environment in our Reconnect communities reflect everything you'd typically expect in a home - such as a kitchen, cosy lounge and spacious bedrooms - but with the added comfort of our highly skilled and friendly dementia-specialist team. Each colleague in the community has received enhanced training in dementia care, ensuring residents are cared for in a way that helps them truly thrive.

Rolled out in six other homes across the group, our Reconnect model of specialist care has proven time and time again that person-centred, therapeutic care not only significantly reduces levels of distress, but can help people living with dementia ‘Reconnect’ with everything that makes them themselves. At Archers Court Care Home in Sunderland, Denise’s daughter, Diane, told us how she’s seen her mum ‘transform’ thanks to the unparalleled level of care in our dementia-specialist Reconnect community:

Amelia Greenwood, Head of Specialist Services, told us how this new Reconnect community with make a positive impact on not just the residents, but the local area, too. “By delivering specialist advanced dementia support locally, Lansbury Court’s Reconnect community ensures that families in Sunderland and surrounding areas can access the right care without the need to travel long distances. It also aims to ease pressure on local hospitals and care services, many of which face increasing demand.

Beyond direct care provision, the new community will also generate employment opportunities, training, and professional development for the local workforce, further strengthening Orchard’s continued commitment and long-term investment to excellence in health and social care in Sunderland.”
