Care Home Open Week 2025: Celebrating the Power of Music

18 July 2025 News

Last month, care homes across the UK opened their doors for a week of celebration and discovery. From June 16 - 22, Care Home Open Week provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the vibrant, welcoming, and often underappreciated side of life in care homes. The week highlighted the services offered and the incredible ways modern care helps people thrive.

This annual event, organised by Championing Social Care, helped care providers connect with local communities by offering an inside look at daily life in these spaces. From lively activities to the warmth of the care team and the quality of care on offer, Care Home Open Week was all about breaking down stereotypes and sparking open conversations about what care homes are really like.

For many people, stepping foot inside of a care home is a new experience, especially when searching for the right place for themselves or loved ones. This week gave people the chance to explore, ask questions, and see firsthand the incredible things happening behind those doors.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at how some of our homes got involved and made this year's Care Home Open Week one to remember!

Green Park Nursing Home in Warrington really embraced this year’s theme, ‘The Power of Music’. The home transformed its communal areas with colourful bunting, handmade posters, and balloons, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. But it didn’t stop there! The team organised a jam-packed (pardon the pun!) week full of music-themed activities for residents, visitors, and colleagues alike. From quizzes and sing-alongs to live performances, there was something for everyone.

Lisa, Activities Coordinator, shared, “Music’s at the heart of what we do here. Our residents love it, and we incorporate it into our weekly activities in so many ways. When we get the chance to do something extra special, we’re all in!”

And they certainly didn’t hold back! Local singer Teresa delivered a show-stopping performance that had everyone tapping their feet and singing along.

She continued, “Teresa’s performance wasn’t just a bit of fun; it was something truly meaningful for many of our residents. She sang songs they grew up with.

In our Reconnect dementia communities, our care model focuses on helping residents reconnect with activities and interests they’ve always loved. Our music-themed sessions are always packed, and we think it’s because music has this amazing way of bringing people together and reminding them of the best times of their lives. It was lovely to show members of our local community the fun we have.

Teresa’s performance left everyone feeling fantastic, and our visitors loved it just as much - there was so much energy and joy in the room!”

Residents enjoying the music

Just down the road, Three Bridges Nursing Home, also based in Warrington, welcomed their local choir for a heartwarming performance that had everyone smiling. Residents, visitors, and colleagues couldn’t help but clap along, sharing in the pure joy that only music can bring.

Witney, Home Manager, expressed gratitude, saying, “A huge thank you to the choir for filling our home with such beautiful sounds. You really made the day unforgettable and brought so much joy to everyone here!”

Over in the North East, residents and visitors at Paddock Stile Manor Dementia Care Home in Houghton-le-Spring enjoyed singing along to the top hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s with local singer, Alex Hall.

Activities coordinator, Adele, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the singing and dancing. It was great to see some new faces– we hope you had as lovely a day as we did.”

Care Home Open Week was an incredible opportunity to highlight the positive impact music has on our residents' well-being. Whether through performances, sing-alongs, or simply playing their favourite tunes, the power of music was truly evident everywhere.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited us during the week! Your presence and participation helped make this week so special.
