Nothing quite says Christmas like the classic musical, The Sound of Music, and for residents of Lansbury Court in Sunderland, a singalong theatre performance of the seasonal favourite was just the thing to get them into the festive spirit. Theatre trips are always a popular activity, with previous outings including Grease the Musical, at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal. The most recent trip however, was at a more local venue: the Sunderland Empire Theatre, in the city centre. Prior to the performance, the group enjoyed a refreshing drink in a nearby pub, before joining in with favourites such as My Favourite Things, and Maria, together with Activity Coordinator Alison Tribe. Said Alison, “Any opportunity for a singalong is always met with enthusiasm, and everyone loves The Sound of Music at Christmas. Music is such a key part of life at Lansbury Court, and the social and psychological benefits of musical activities are huge, particularly for those living with dementia, or impaired speech.” To keep up to date with news from the home, follow us on facebook.com/orchardcarehome/
