Riverdale Brings the British Seaside to Chesterfield!

Who says you need to be at the coast to enjoy a proper beach day? Our Chesterfield-based home, Riverdale, recently proved that you can bring the seaside to you – no sand, no saltwater, just pure British beach bliss!

Our fantastic team pulled out all the stops to create an immersive seaside experience. Colleagues dressed in cheerful red and blue stripes, and deck chairs popped up throughout the home. With vibrant beach-themed wall art, playful seagulls hanging from the ceiling, and the mouth-watering aroma of warm doughnuts in the air, it was easy to forget they weren’t actually beside the sea!

No British beach day would be complete without fish and chips- and the home delivered, literally! Residents enjoyed a classic fish and chip lunch, served fresh from the local chippy and eaten from trays on their laps, just like old times. Dessert? A nostalgic 99 ice cream cone, with an extra-large flake included, of course, followed by freshly made seaside doughnuts for those with room for more.

Anita, a resident, shared her delight: “I’ve had such a lovely time, and the best part was the fish and chips served on a tray on my knee – it reminded me of my younger years."

Wendy, Activities Coordinator, said: “What a fantastic afternoon! Paper Kite Duo truly stole the show with their live performance -  their energy was infectious, and it wasn’t long before everyone was joining in, singing, swaying, and tapping along. We’re so thankful they could be part of such a special day.”

Adding a touch of seaside magic, the team even arranged a classic Punch and Judy show - and it was a hit! Pardon the pun. The timeless puppet duo brought waves of laughter and joy to residents and colleagues alike, rounding off the day with plenty of chuckles and cheerful memories.

Denise West, Home Manager, said: “It was such an incredible day! We wanted to bring the joy of summer right to our residents, and it was a huge success. They had an absolute blast, and we can’t wait for our next themed event!”
