Residents Swing Back to the 1940s at Riverdale Care Home
There were smiles, sing-alongs, and a whole lot of toe-tapping at our Chesterfield-based care home last week as residents and colleagues enjoyed a fabulous 1940s-themed party…and what a blast from the past it was!
The highlight of the day was a performance by Sarah from RazzleDazzle, who brought the spirit of the era to life with songs including “Run Rabbit Run”, “Pack Up Your Troubles”, and “Hang Out Your Washing on the Siegfried Line”. Her vibrant performance had everyone singing along.
Colin, who lives at the home and is a RAF veteran, was seen smiling and enjoying the performance.
Robena, along with her daughter and daughter-in-law, also thoroughly enjoyed the day. They shared: “We really enjoyed it and thought Sarah was fabulous. It brought so many memories back – we knew all the words to the songs!”
“It was wonderful to see so many smiles and hear the residents joining in,” said Wendy, Activities Coordinator. “These songs sparked so many memories for our people.”
The day wasn’t just about fun (although there was plenty of that!). It also marked a special step on Riverdale’s journey toward becoming part of the Veteran Friendly Framework, as part of a national initiative which recognises care homes that go the extra mile for former service members.
Wendy said, “These songs brought so much joy and sparked lovely memories. It was brilliant seeing everyone so involved!
Denise, Home Manager, added: “It’s all about honouring our residents' pasts while creating new, happy memories together.”
From classic tunes to cups of tea and plenty of cheer, the day was a lovely reminder that at Riverdale, there’s always time for a singalong and a trip down memory lane.
Cue “We’ll Meet Again…” – and we’re already planning the next celebration!
