A Roaring Twenties party to remember at Penwortham Grange & Lodge

The 1920s was an iconic decade for music and fashion which always makes it an exciting theme for a sing-along party. Penwortham Grange & Lodge Care Home recently threw a Roaring Twenties party which fit the theme perfectly and which the residents thoroughly enjoyed!

Activities Coordinator Jayne is always going above and beyond in her activity planning and once she chooses a theme, she goes all out for it! This 1920s party was no exception, with themed entertainment, decorations and accessories.

Poppy Holiday, the amazing singer, came dressed for the occasion in her flapper dress and headpiece and wowed the residents with her lovely renditions of all the classic hits.

One resident, Dorothy, particularly enjoyed singing along to Nat ‘King’ Cole’s famous song ‘Daisy Bell (bicycle built for two)’ - she took rule of the microphone and blew everyone away with her beautiful voice!

After a friendly competition where residents tried to ‘Name the tune’ as quickly as they could, Joan won a beautiful little teddy which was handmade by Poppy herself. It was a close call though between Joan and Marjorie – they really knew their music trivia.

Another happy competition winner was Bill; with his top-hat on and a big smile on his face, he impressed the room with his blow-up guitar skills. He said: “I was excited to win a Turkish Delight! They’re my favourite chocolate ever.”

Meanwhile, dancing queen Vera showed off all her best moves and walked around the room engaging and dancing with her friends in the home! She always enjoys a boogie.

Jayne told us: “I love planning events like this for the residents to enjoy, it absolutely makes my day when I see the smiles on their faces while they get dressed up and listen to their favourite songs.”

It’s certainly true that the residents were made to feel the part with their headpieces, accessories, and feather boas. Everybody loved posing for photos in front of the backdrop!

Even during the slower songs, happiness was all around the room; everyone sat back and enjoyed a tipple of Schloer with their friends.

A huge thank you to Jayne and the whole team at Penwortham for making the afternoon so special for everyone! It’s immersive, engaging events like this which we always enjoy here at Orchard – anything to make people smile.
