Penwortham’s Party of the Century: June Turns 100!
Penwortham Grange and Lodge was buzzing with excitement earlier this month as one of its most cherished residents, June Hambleton, celebrated an incredible milestone – her 100th birthday! The day was packed with joy, laughter, and a real sense of community, as friends, family, and special guests gathered to honour this extraordinary woman.
Born in 1925, June’s story is one of resilience and spirit. During WWII, she served in the Women’s Land Army, doing essential work on farms to support the war effort. Post-war? She took the wheel – literally, working as a chauffeur and tractor driver, never shying away from hard work.
To mark her big day, the care team pulled out all the stops, organising a wonderful party that June and everyone else will never forget. Special guests included none other, Cllr Paul Wharton-Hardman BEM, Mayor of South Ribble, and local MP Paul Foster, who joined the fun to honour this legend.
Live music from Phil Halliwell, a local and well-loved singer, set the tone for the afternoon, with classic '60s hits getting everyone up on their feet – even the Mayor joined in, glow stick in hand!
June was showered with cards, flowers, and thoughtful gifts – including a birthday card from King Charles himself, along with letters from the House of Commons and the Mayor’s Office.
The home went all out decorating one of the lounges full of balloons, banners and even fact sheets about the year June was born.
There was a buffet, drinks flowing and of course - June's favourite cake!
"Celebrating June’s 100th was such a joy," said Debra Banks, Home Manager. "She’s had an incredible life full of strength, love and spirit, so we wanted to make sure her big day felt as special as she is. It was a really lovely celebration – we’re so thankful to Cllr Paul Wharton-Hardman and Paul Foster for helping to make it even more memorable."
Cllr Paul Wharton-Hardman, Mayor of South Ribble, said: "It was a real honour to be part of June’s 100th birthday celebrations with everyone at Penwortham Grange and Lodge. June’s a shining example of everything we love about our community: strong, full of life, and full of heart. Thank you, June, for all you’ve done, and for showing us what a life well-lived really looks like."
June’s son, Peter Hambleton, said: "A big thank you to Jayne Farrow, Michelle Quinn, and the whole team for putting together such a brilliant day for our mum – we’ll never forget it!"
It was a day filled with laughter, dancing, and lots of love – a perfect way to celebrate a woman who’s lived all 100 of her years with heart.
Happy Birthday again, June – you’re a true inspiration!
