Orchard Halloween fun: Providing around the clock (s)care!

05 November 2024 News

Across all of our fabulous care homes, the teams went above and beyond in ensuring that this spooky season was full of tricks, treats and fun! Imaginations ran wild this October – pumpkins were glittered and painted, sweet treats were baked and decorated to perfection, and people fought for the 1st place spot in various dress-up competitions. We’ve put together some of our top highlights below!

Over at Green Park Nursing Home in Warrington, it was no normal Halloween celebration! By combining the spooky event with Mischief Night, it meant that the residents could get involved in jump-scaring the Green Park care team and hiding ‘creepy crawlies’ around the home. One particularly cheeky trickster, Malcolm, decided to dress up a Jason Statham cut-out in Halloween stickers and jump out at the passing carers. There was even live entertainment, a scary scavenger hunt and a delicious buffet (with some homemade pumpkin pie!).

Activities Co-Ordinator Lisa told us: “Halloween is always a much-loved event by the people living here at Green Park and year after year we try to think of new activities we can incorporate. The idea of combining it with Mischief night this year was really different and fun as it involved everyone coming together to have a great time and share in lots of laughter!”

Lofthouse dress up competition

Many other homes threw marvellous Halloween parties, such as Lofthouse Grange and Lodge Care Home in Wakefield. With plenty of treats on the buffet table and some great tunes on in the background, the disco was a real blast for everyone involved. What really stood out though were the outstanding efforts that went into the ghoulish costumes - it certainly made it difficult to choose a winner for the fancy dress competition!

The fang-tastic frivolities didn’t stop there, as Langfield Care Home went above and beyond not only in their costumes for the party but also in their use of wonderful decorations! Throughout October, the Langfield team adorned the home with impressively spooky displays; there were plenty of cobwebs, blood splatters and even inflatable spiders. There were also plenty of activities leading up to the party, such as creative pumpkin afternoons, homemade masks and ghost finger painting!

Chatsworth Lodge Care Home in Chesterfield pulled out all the stops for a show-stopping party which had everyone dressing up and looking perfectly petrifying! One resident, Margaret, said she didn’t recognise Home Manager, Zenka, in her witch outfit, but added “I recognised your kind, happy voice instead!”. In the lead up to the party, the team also made sure that everybody was engaging in all sorts of Halloween activities. Whether they were creating terrifying table pieces or racing to complete wicked word searches, everybody was most definitely in the Halloween ‘spirit’.

Zenka told us “As fantastic as our Halloween party was (and always is!), we like to make sure that our residents are constantly engaged in Halloween themed activities as it makes the whole month really fun for us all. We even took some of our people on shopping trips to buy decorations and sweet treats for the home!”
