Residents from South Shields home Ashlea Mews have been making more than several road trips in recent months, as they have put their mini bus to good use on the highways and byways of the local area. The Winter Gardens in Sunderland was a popular choice. Sandy, a resident who is blind, enjoyed being up close to the variety of plants, and worked together with the care team whilst they described the varieties, colours and textures. With the sun shining, lunch was taken by the sea, with scampi, chips and peas and a half of beer. “Ronnie enjoyed his fresh scampi”, said Activity Coordinator Lauren, “But it was Sandy who made us laugh, as he replied that he had ordered a fish not a whale.” “There are so many different and interesting places to take our residents, which might offer a new and fun experience” Lauren added, “In the ice cream parlour in the West Village, we had ice cream in tea cups, including a bubblegum flavour!” The Scott Ridley exhibition was also a recent request from residents, which is located in South Shields, a short distance from the home. On each trip, different residents with varying interests are encouraged to take part, and the minibus trips are always in high demand. The home has taken gentlemen residents Jimmy and Robert to the Harbour Lights for lunch, whilst ladies Doreen and Violet scoured out another ice cream venue. “The ice cream shop was beautiful, just like being in Italy.” Said one resident, Violet, “And passing all these lovely houses, I feel like I went to Hollywood and Italy in one afternoon….!” For regular updates on news in our homes, follow us on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/orchardcarehome/
