Local Mayor pays a visit to Rotherham Home

Residents from Cherry Trees Care Home in Rotherham had a rather special afternoon tea, as they spent the day meeting the Mayor recently. A large group of residents were given the opportunity to have a tour of the Rotherham Town Hall and meet the newly elected Mayor, Councillor Eve Keeman. Residents toured the Hall and Council Chambers, learning about the role of the Mayor, Livery Collar and facts about the Ceremonial Mace, including the different ways it faces for different events. Home Manager, Sharron Whaley, organised the trip for the home and has previously visited the Mayor’s Office after she was honoured for her long services in social care. Activity Coordinator, Lisa Glynn, said “All of us had a great day meeting the Mayor. The trip was really informative and the residents had lots of questions that Eve took her time in answering. She was so kind to everyone and really engaged us all. One of our residents, Doug Pierce, gave her some flowers, it was a really lovely moment.” The day concluded with a civilised afternoon tea in the town’s conference room, where the residents were shown photographs of previous Mayors and given the opportunity to ask questions. Councillor Eve Keeman also attended Cherry Trees for National Care Home Open Day on Friday to meet and greet the residents and relatives.
