04 October 2019 News

BeFunky-collage (7).jpgOur Warrington home Green Park and Sunderland home Ashlea Lodge both recently celebrated the opening of their new specialist dementia care unit Reconnect.

Reconnect is an innovative new approach that focuses on communication and celebrates people’s identity. The opening of the unit at both homes saw people from the local community visiting along with professionals from the social care industry, refreshments were on offer alongside a light lunch for all who attended.

Green Park Manager Mellisa Thompson said, “this is a very exciting time for Green Park as Reconnect brings an innovative approach to caring for the elderly.”

The doors of the homes were open to everyone to come and look around and find out more about this new service. The homes also saw some very special visitors, The Mayor of Warrington Councillor Wendy Johnson opened the Reconnect unit at Green Park and was very impressed with the unit, Madam Mayor said, “It’s good to see Orchard Care Homes launching this service. After looking around, from my perspective as someone with a health and social care background, you’ve got it right.” Ashlea Lodge welcomed The Mayor of Sunderland Councillor David Snowdon and were honoured that he opened the new unit for them.

Lorraine Lee, our Executive Director for Quality and Governance here at Orchard Care Homes said: “It was wonderful to see so many visitors interested in our new Reconnect model.  We wanted to create an environment that is more therapeutic in its approach than a medical model.”

Reconnect is a ground-breaking new care model that is set to revolutionise care for people with dementia and we can’t wait to continue to welcome residents to our new unit.
