Alpacas Bring Joy to Eaton Court Nursing Home in Grimsby

29 July 2025 News

Eaton Court Nursing Home recently welcomed four very special (and cheeky!) guests to their community; alpacas Coco, Taz, Charlie and Kitty from Westfield Alpacas. From walks around the garden to visiting residents in their rooms, the day was filled with joy thanks to the fantastic initiative from Activities Coordinator, Mel. We spoke to the team to find out how the day went, and why they wanted to organise this fun-filled alpaca spectacular!

Alpacas visit Eaton Court Nursing Home in Grimsby

At our Grimsby nursing home, residents were buzzing with excitement as they patiently awaited the arrival of 4 talkative alpacas, who have become firm favourites of the group. The alpacas, from Westfield Alpacas in Barton-Upon-Humber, visited the nursing home last year for the first time, and have since been to the home a whopping seven times – talk about popular!

Mel, Activities Coordinator and organiser of the visit, said: “This is the second time this year we’ve welcomed Westfield Alpacas into our home, and the seventh time in total, and, just as always, it was a brilliant day! Our residents absolutely adore them – so much so, we’ve already booked them in for another visit later this year.”

The nursing home in Lincolnshire, which offers residential care, nursing care and short-term respite care, welcomed the fluffy foursome with open arms, and was particularly enjoyed by Sylvia (pictured below) who loves the gentle creatures.

The visit was part of the home’s commitment to enriching care home life through unique and meaningful experiences. Anne Ruttle, Home Manager, said: "A huge thank you to the team at Westfield Alpacas for coming over and delighting our people! We had an unforgettable afternoon. Visits like this offer more than just a bit of fun; they’re a form of calming therapy. Gentle, positive interactions with animals can reduce anxiety, lift spirits, and bring real comfort to our residents, especially those living with dementia. We’re always looking for meaningful ways to enhance wellbeing, and this was a perfect example.”

As part of the day, the alpacas trotted their way around the nursing home, and even made sure to visit residents who stayed in their rooms, making this a truly inclusive event. Eddie, resident at the home, said, “They are such kind-natured animals, I love seeing them here – it's always such a joy.”

This exciting day is just one shining example of how the dedicated team at Eaton Court Nursing Home consistently go above and beyond to create fun, immersive experiences for their residents. From themed days and sensory activities to bringing animals into the heart of the home, the team are always looking for creative ways to make life fun, engaging, and full of meaningful moments.

A huge thank you to Mel, Anne, Westfield Alpacas and (of course) Taz, Charlie, Kitty and Coco for hosting such a fun and memorable day for our residents – we can’t wait to hear about their next visit!
