Karen Radford
Home Manager
Karen Radford shares what inspired her to pursue a career in care home management.
I was only seventeen when I started working in care, qualifying as a nurse and working at Kings Mill Hospital. However, as part of my training I worked in a local care home to gain experience. I really loved working at the care home - every day was different and it was very rewarding, so I decided to move to the care home full time and train as a Senior Nurse. I worked my way up to managing the eighty-bed home and made it my responsibility to ensure all the residents received the best end of life care.
That was five years ago, and I remember the positive atmosphere I experienced, both from the residents and the staff, on my first day. I live close by so there is a strong sense of community within the town, which feeds into the home from the staff and residents, many who have lived close by their whole life.
The best thing about working for Orchard Care Homes is the support network that we have from all aspects of the company, everybody is approachable and involved in the service we provide here.
