Green Lodge in Teesside recently welcomed its latest resident to the home, in the shape of a new pet guinea pig, who has been warmly received by residents of the 55-bed home. Upon welcoming their new furry friend, a naming ceremony was held by staff and residents, after suggestions were added to a hat. The proceedings saw resident Doris pick out the winning name, ‘Alvin’ which had been submitted by Kitchen Assistant, Sammie. Activity Coordinator Emma commented, “Alvin has settled in really well, and is the talking point of the home at the moment, with everyone in agreement that his name suits him down to a tee. “There are numerous therapeutic benefits to having pets in the home, including aiding with socialisation, and giving a sense of purpose to those who have taken on his housekeeping duties. He is also lovely and soft, so an ideal companion for those living with dementia, for whom esperiences involving the senses are incredibly important.” To keep up to date with news from the home, follow us on Facebook and YouTube
