Staff and residents across many homes embraced Dignity Action Day recently, a campaign to highlight and embed the importance of dignity in care, through a series of workshops and activities. At Lymewood Court in Merseyside, staff created a ‘digni-tree’ where residents could write what dignity means to them on paper leaves. Residents, including Edith and Vera, also baked a ‘digni-tree’, using a chocolate Swiss roll as the trunk, and cupcakes decorated to look like leaves. Later in the afternoon, a ‘digni-tea party’ was held, with the group enjoying their creation with a warming cup of tea. Elsewhere, at Green Park in Cheshire, staff also took part in a ‘digni-tea party’. Both homes also had a dignity board on display in reception, where staff and residents could reflect on how they felt dignity should be upheld. Throughout the day, staff took part in workshops, including assisting one another with mobility around the home, to better understand how it feels to have specific care needs. Activity Coordinator for Lymewood Court, Louise Mitchell said, “Upholding dignity is a core aspect of care provision, and days like this are a great way to both illustrate and remind ourselves what this means for our residents and how we approach caring for them.” To keep up to date with news from Orchard Care Homes, follow us on Facebook and Youtube.
