One of our homes in Sunderland was recently awarded for being the first home in Sunderland to use the all new “Red Bag Scheme”.

The Red Bag is something that residents keep with them when they are admitted into hospitals, the bag contains essential Items and pieces of paper work including medication lists and there is also room for clothes and toiletries, ready for their stay in hospital. The bag stays with the residents at all times and comes back with them when they return to their care home, ensuring that all of the documents are safe and in one place.

Gillian Varley, Home Manager at Ashlea Lodge in Sunderland, recently accepted the award for her efforts in launching the Red Bag Scheme.

“I was surprised when I received the telephone call stating that Ashlea Lodge had won a prize.” Says Gillian Varley, Care Home Manager. “I was thrilled to be a part of the scheme. My senior staff had worked very hard getting all the new passports ready for the 10th September and it worked. Without their hard work then it would not have been successful.”

Congratulations on your award Gillian & Team, keep up the good work!
