Ashlea Lodge in Millfield, Sunderland has received a positive Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which records the home as overall GOOD. Representatives from CQC undertook unannounced visits to the home on 22 & 23 February 2018, and the report has rated the home good across key areas for being safe, caring, and well-led. The home provides residential care for up to 40 older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The report highlighted the progress the home has made since its last inspection, focusing on the impact of the new manager. Resident and family feedback about the care they receive was overwhelmingly positive. The report also highlighted an enjoyable mealtime experience in the home, which has a general happy atmosphere and strong links to the local community including visits from local pet owners, local clergy, entertainers and children’s choirs. Ratings are given based on observations of the home by the unannounced CQC team, and on conversations with staff, residents and their relatives. The report is part of CQC's programme of inspections. Comments include; "They are always respectful towards me and I genuinely believe they care about the residents." A relative commented. "I have been here about three years now and I have always felt safe living here. The girls look after me really well." "I'll make sure I'll save room for pudding but don't tell [my family member] I've had seconds." One staff member commented, "I am very much supported. The seniors are very approachable. I can go to them anytime. We always get put on training." "It's really good and has a friendly atmosphere. I have a good laugh with everyone."
