There has been a flurry of activity at Ashlea Mews in Tyne & Wear, as residents of the have been welcoming spring by helping to create a range of birdhouses, hoping to enjoy some home visits from their feathered friends. A recent arts and craft session saw the group, comprising of Margaret, Doris, Florence, Brenda, and Joan, painting the houses with bright colours, in a range of patterns. The houses were then hung in prominent positions around the 40-bed home’s landscaped gardens, enhancing the outdoor space for the home’s many birdwatchers. Activity Coordinator Chloe Dingwall commented, “There has been lots of creativity on display at the home recently, including making Easter baskets, painting pictures, and regular baking sessions. With the warmer weather round the corner, the focus is now moving toward activities which allow a chance to get outside. “In addition to brightening up the garden, the bright colours of the birdhouses offer extra sensory stimulation, which is of huge benefit to those living with dementia.” To keep up to date with news from the home, follow us on Facebook and YouTube.
