Joining residents on the cold winter’s day, were two delightful Shetland ponies! The ponies arrived wrapped up in their Christmas jackets and immediately put smiles on all of the resident’s faces.

Everybody was delighted with the arrival of their special guests and most were amazed at the size of the ponies… they were both no bigger than a large dog!

“The ponies were such good fun, I loved being able to stroke them”, commented Rita, a resident at Ashlea Mews Care Home.

Not only is it a good bit of fun for all involved, but animal therapy is a great way of opening up conversations, as residents begin to reminisce and share stories about their own, previous pets.

This is just one of our regular animal therapy sessions that the home holds as a part of their robust activity schedule. Residents love interacting with the animals and it also gets everyone socialising amongst themselves by recalling pets they had in the past and sharing stories with one and other.
