More than just a home: Eaton Court’s community links

Eaton Court Nursing Home have a special relationship with nearby Ormiston South Parade Academy and share in their goal of creating intergenerational ties within the local Grimsby community. Following resident Sylvia’s recent visit to the school, we were excited to find out more about what they have been up to recently.

Earlier this month, Ormiston Academy contacted the home to take part in an interesting little project looking into how holidays have changed over time. Several members of the team went along with resident Sylvia to discuss the topic and help the children with their work.

“We all had a lovely afternoon sharing stories and words of wisdom with each other. Sylvia had a great time at the school and looks forward to visiting the lovely pupils again in the future!” added Activities Co-ordinator Mel.

This may be the most recent activity the home and school have participated in together, but it’s certainly not the only one. Their relationship has been developing over time and they’ve already made some great memories together.

Last June, the pupils went on an exciting trip to The Deep aquarium in Hull and sent the residents pictures from their trip alongside letters with their favourite memories from the day. Then, near Christmas, the pupils visited the home and performed a heartwarming festive concert for the residents – they even shared cards and gifts later in the month!

“Earlier this year, some of the year 3 pupils came again to the home and brought us a lovely picture collage of their handprints. We’ve since put it up in our reception area as a special reminder of our new friends over at Ormiston South Parade Academy. We’re excited to see what else we get up to together this year!” said Home Manager, Anne.

Links such as this one are very important to us here at Orchard, as we recognise the importance of feeling part of the larger community. It makes our residents feel at home in the neighborhood, and it creates cherished friendships and happy memories for us all to share.
