Lofthouse Grange and Lodge’s splashing good time at The Deep

Whoever said care home activities aren’t filled with adventure and fun clearly never joined Lofthouse Grange and Lodge on one of their trips out!

Residents and colleagues recently had an absolute whale of a time when a group, made up of 10 residents and 5 colleagues set off on a fun-filled day exploring the deep blue sea... all without getting wet.

They spent hours wandering around one of the UK’s most spectacular aquariums, discovering the underwater wonders that The Deep has to offer.

Picture this: giant jellyfish, glittery fish in every colour, and some seriously impressive sharks. Our day trippers were hooked (pun intended!) right from the start.

 Every step was an opportunity to learn something new - whether it was about sea turtles or the eerie creatures of the deep. Everyone was completely immersed in the experience, and yes, there were plenty of smiles and laughs as the team shared this one-of-a-kind day.

The group enjoyed a quick refuel at the café onsite before heading over to the penguin enclosure. The penguins were definitely a highlight of the trip for many. Resident Sheila Grieves said, “It was amazing! Penguins are my absolute favourite animals, so it was a real treat to see them again in person. I even bought one as a souvenir and named him Pingu!”

Avril James added, “I’m so grateful for the chance to visit The Deep - I’d never been before, and what an experience it was! A huge thank you to Donna for sorting everything out. The care team were fantastic, and we all had such a brilliant time.”

Michael Thompson exclaimed, “It was one of the best days of my life! I got a teddy shark, and I sleep with it every night now. I’d love to go back soon!”

Donna Worsley, Activities Coordinator at Lofthouse Grange and Lodge, said, “This was our first trip to The Deep, and judging by the smiles and wonderful feedback from our residents, it definitely won’t be the last. We all had a fantastic time - it was a truly special day.”
