Eckington Court Take On Weekly Walking Challenge
Derbyshire Care Home Eckington Court start a weekly walking group as they explore their local area.
The home has introduced a new club where each Friday they will take a walk to their local library, this will give residents a chance to get out of the home and be active whilst walking through their local neighbourhood and reminiscing.
The first session saw residents noticing developments that had been made to the local area as they talked about growing up in Eckington. Once they got to the local library they were pleased to see that there was a local children’s playgroup there, they enjoyed watching and interacting with the children.
They took out books to read with the help of library staff, they made sure to find books with extra-large text so it would be easy for them to read without straining their eyes, one of the residents who has difficulty with vision took out an audiobook and can’t wait to experience it.
On the way home from the library the residents stopped off at a café and refuelled with a cup of tea and some yummy cakes before heading back to the home.
