John and Pat celebrating their Diamond Anniversary.Love was certainly in the air at Ashlea Mews where a loving couple at the South Shields care home, recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary, 60 years of marriage and still love-struck!

John, a resident at Ashlea Mews, met Pat in 1954 when they were just 16 and have been smitten ever since. They married at the age of 21 in 1959 at the old, St. Oswin's Church. Since then, Pat and John have led an amazing life together, going on plenty of holidays and enjoying train spotting together. The pair have two children, six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

The happy couple celebrated at Ashlea Mews with an intimate gathering of their family and friends. Everybody enjoyed the buffet that was provided by the fantastic chef at Ashlea Mews, which included a variety of sandwiches, pies and cakes!

As a small gift, John gave Pat a gorgeous bouquet of flowers the team at Ashlea Mews bought for John. The pair also enjoyed a cake that was a real show stopper!

“Thank you all for such a wonderful afternoon, this has been one of the best afternoons I have had with John in a long time”, commented Pat.

Once everyone had left for the afternoon, there was plenty of buffet food leftover, that the couple decided to share with the rest of the home for their supper. Pat was also kind enough to come back into the home with a thank you card for the staff and a very generous £50 donation to the resident's funds!

Congratulations Pat and John, here’s to many more years of happy marriage!
