Lansbury Court, in Sunderland was the venue for an afternoon of dance, for an end-of-term performance by students from popular, local dance institute Gemma Hackett’s Dance School. Aged between three and fourteen, the students performed a mixture of tap and modern dance for an audience of residents and staff. With music ranging from wartime favourites , to the more modern, there was something for everyone. A variety of costumes also added a visual aspect to the recital. Sharon Fairbairn, who is a Care Assistant at the home, helped to organise the afternoon after her grand-daughter and nieces began attending the school. The dancers were very well received and one resident commented: “It was lovely to have the young girls here. I loved every bit.” Activity Coordinator Christine Callaghan hopes to make the visit a regular occurrence. “We hope to develop a relationship with Gemma and the school, and are arranging to host them again when they are not too busy.” She said; “The afternoon was a fun and entertaining way to discuss musical memories and build inter-generational relationships within the local community.” To read more news from our homes, follow us on facebook
