Adored by residents, friends and peers - Gwen celebrates 30 years!
Domestic Housekeeper Gwen Arnott joined the Lansbury Court Care Home team in June 1995 and is now about to celebrate an incredible 30 year milestone. As a very valued member of the team to everyone that has worked with her over the years, we were excited to find out more about Gwen’s time here at Orchard.

We asked Gwen what her day looks like as a Domestic Assistant. She told us: “I ensure the cleanliness of the home is maintained, I also assist other departments, and I enjoy spending time and speaking to people such as our residents, families, professionals and colleagues.”
Although Gwen is now back working as a Domestic Assistant, she also worked for over 10 years as a Care Assistant and held the role of Moving and Positioning Coordinator for some time. Her contributions to the home have therefore been both varied and valuable – she is a lady of many amazing talents.
Reflecting on her impressive career at the brilliant Sunderland care home, Gwen has received fabulous training from the Orchard Academy as well as from her peers at Lansbury Court.
Gwen told us: “Most of all, I have benefitted from the people I work with at Lansbury Court - we are not just a great team, we are a family.”
Developing relationships with her peers is just as important to Gwen as those that she has developed with the residents. In fact, Gwen’s favourite thing about working at Lansbury across all of her different roles has been supporting the people who live at Lansbury Court, spending quality time with them and finding out about their lives.
Gwen has witnessed many happy holiday moments over her years at Lansbury Court and has always loved seeing the happiness that spreads through the home at Easter and Christmas. One of her favourite memories though was during the 2020 lockdown, when management surprised her with her 25 years of service awards – it really brightened her day!
Home Manager Marlena told us: “Gwen is a warm, caring and friendly person that makes all new residents, visitors and colleagues feel welcome and part of the family. Gwen is a friend and agony aunt to everyone and has a heart of gold.”
Thank you to Gwen for sharing her story with us, and for dedicating 30 years of her life to the welfare of others! Thank you also to Marlena and the rest of the Lansbury Court family for all that they do for the residents, and for each other. We look forward to seeing lots of photos and videos from Gwen’s 30 year party which the home is throwing for her later this month.
