Vintage Afternoon Tea in Yorkshire
It was tea, cakes and melodious 1940s music at The Hawthornes this week, as residents from across two floors gathered together, to enjoy a Vintage Afternoon Tea event in the lounge. The cooks prepared a selection of ten different cakes and buns, whilst a variety of teas were on offer. Family and friends had been invited and with bunting and wartime pictures decorating the room, there was a vibrant atmosphere, and plenty of singing. Natasha Harper, Professional Vintage Singer, looked stunning in red, and created a positive mood with her renditions of Boogie Woogie and We’ll Meet Again. “It has been a lovely day.” Said Heather Middleton, Home Manager, “We’ve had all the residents taking part and the cakes and scones have been particularly popular. There has been a strong sense of community, which is lovely.” Diane Lilley, Orchard Care Homes’ Food & Beverage Manager, said “This was a great event. We wanted to introduce some new flavours and tastes for the residents, and the afternoon has worked like a relaxed tasting session. In a social setting like this, people have been more open to trying new things.” Afternoon Tea is being promoted as part of Nutrition & Hydration Week across all care homes this week.
