Thornton Hall and Lodge unleashed their inner Picasso
At Thornton Hall and Lodge Care Home, creativity was buzzing in the air as residents unleashed their inner artists for a vibrant art exhibition.
The residents of our Liverpool-based home spent the week preparing for the much-anticipated showcase and penny auction. The artwork on display was all original, each piece thoughtfully crafted. From vibrant paintings to intricate drawings, every creation told its own story, reflecting the unique personality and artistic flair of its creator.
The event was open to the local community, along with the family and friends of residents, offering a warm, welcoming afternoon filled with art, refreshments, and plenty of laughter.
One of the most anticipated parts of the day was the auction, where people had the chance to bid on the original pieces on display. Among the fan favourites were Ritalisa by Rita and Olive Branch by Liz, two residents who took two very different approaches to their paintings.
Rita, who created a Picasso-esque self-portrait for the exhibition, shared how much joy the process brought her. ‘Creating my self-portrait gave me so much joy, and it was good to share it with my friends and family. We had such a laugh creating these’ she said.
Liz, who served as a Reverand for many years, created the ‘olive branch’. Reflecting on her journey, she shared, ‘I designed this with my calling in mind - sometimes, we all could use an olive branch.’
Other paintings were snapped up equally fast. Just look at the proud new owner of this beauty.
While some residents proudly admired their artwork, others took a more playful approach when reviewing their pieces. Albie, with a grin, joked, "Wow, some of these paintings are awful!" as he pointed to his hand-drawn fire truck. Meanwhile, a few others were in complete disbelief, insisting they couldn't possibly have painted some of the pieces on display.
Activities coordinator, Emily, enthusiastically said, ‘You should all be incredibly proud – you've created a contemporary art gallery that would make even the most famous museums around the world green with envy if they saw your work! I am very proud of you all.’
The evening ended with a glass or 2 (or 3 for some) of champagne and some delicious nibbles.
It's fair to say that everyone who attended had a fantastic evening! Huge thanks to the Thornton Hall and Lodge team for organising such a fun filled event and an even bigger thank you to all of our resident artists who created some magnificent pieces of art!
