Joyce and Billy, who live at Ashlea Lodge, in Tyne and Wear enjoyed a trip to South Shields Museum recently, before a fish and chip lunch in the café, and an ice cream on the seafront. The museum is popular in the north east, known for its collections of historic artefacts celebrating the area’s 4000-year industrial and maritime history. A particular highlight of the visit was seeing the old tile map that once adorned the wall of the local railway station, which has since been demolished. Joyce commented, “It was lovely to see the old railway map as it is a piece of local history. I remember looking at it as a child to see how far the railway went.” After the museum, the pair, together with Activity Coordinator Simone, went to the café to enjoy their fish and chips, before going down to the seafront for ice cream. Simone commented, “Tradition dictates that a visit to the coast means fish and chips and an ice cream, and even though we live on the coast, it never gets old.” Billy added, “I really enjoyed the trip, but I particularly liked the fish and chips, they were superb.” To keep up to date with news from the home, follow us on facebook.com/orchardcarehome/
