Archers Park, the recently awarded Top 20 Care Home in the North East*, has now received a positive Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which records the home as GOOD across all five categories of inspection. Representatives from CQC undertook unannounced visits to the home on 20 and 24 March 2017, and the report has rated the home good for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The home provides residential care for up to 40 older people, some of whom are living with dementia, and recently had some investment, that included adapting the environment to suit the needs of people living with dementia. Tactile objects and themed memorabilia are found throughout communal spaces and a ‘pub’ was created and is now highly used by residents and their families.   The report was extremely positive across all areas, highlighting kind and considerate care workers and a good management structure, with residents supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supporting them in the least restrictive way possible. Ratings are given based on observations of the home by the unannounced CQC team, and on conversations with staff, residents and their relatives. The report is part of CQC's programme of inspections. Comments from the report included; "The cook is lovely, very good. They are very good desserts, which are my favourite, and there is a good choice." "I can make choices about my food…I feel the meals are quite varied." "I like living here and the staff are very nice.” Roz Wright, Home Manager, said; “We are so pleased to have received this good report, it’s the fruition of all the work that the team put in to making this place the warm and homely environment that it is. “Since the renovations in the home at the end of 2016, we have noticed a marked difference in the way both residents and staff act here, and it is all positive. With this and our recent carehome.co.uk award, there’s a definite joyous feel to living and working at Archers Park.” The home has a diverse and busy activity programme, with regular events in the home.
