Lofthouse Grange & Lodge staff fundraise in memory of those who lost their lives from COVID-19
To recognise, honour and remember those who are no longer with us due to the coronavirus pandemic, Lofthouse Grange & Lodge care home in Wakefield, West Yorkshire will complete a 5 mile sponsored walk.
Throughout the past year, the team at Lofthouse has faced countless challenges that have forced them to adapt the way they provide care and support to residents and their families. Despite this, the exceptional quality of the care provided has been maintained to the same high standard, and their drive to ensure all residents still have their independence, choice, dignity and above all communication with their loved ones remains. Sadly, in the last 12 months, some residents at the home lost their battle with the coronavirus and Lofthouse lost members of their close-knit family unit. For this reason, staff has decided to walk together on the 15th May during a sponsored walk to ensure their losses are never forgotten.
Ten members of staff will complete the walk at Pugney’s Country Park in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, whilst wearing T-shirts with pictures of the residents who sadly passed away. The walk aims to raise money to go back into the home for the residents, to provide a garden area that will be in memory of these people.
Lofthouse has already begun plans to build a memory garden devoted to victims of COVID-19. The grounds have been cleared and cleaned and staff are currently in the planning stages of ensuring it is a safe environment that captures the spirit of the home. The main purpose of the garden is to prove that in these sad times memories are not lost and that each step that we take will remind us of the many happy memories that we all had together.
Staff will continue to celebrate those who lost their lives every year moving forward and hope that the garden can develop and grow with memories and give people a place to remember for years to come.
Marsha Tuffin, Home Manager, commented on their achievements and said “The past year has been tough for all and here at Lofthouse we have had the passion and drive to not let this affect the level of care and support given to our residents.
“The lasting memories that we all hold close can never be forgotten and the entire team should be proud of their efforts in memory of those that are no longer with us. Lofthouse would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated to our staff and supported our plans to create a memory garden here at the home.”
