Green Lodge Visit The Zoo

1 edit_0.jpgGreen Lodge took full advantage of the warm weather and took a day trip the zoo.

This was an extra special trip as resident Mavis who usually prefers not to get involved with the home’s activities decided to come along! This made everyone very happy as they got to spend time with Mavis, they all wanted to make the day as fun as possible for her.

They got to the zoo via the Oomph bus and sat Mavis on a window seat so she was able to see everything that was happening, she was very intrigued by this and asked a lot of questions, especially when they went under the Tyne tunnel!

When arriving at the zoo the first attraction that the group saw was the birds, Mavis and Florence commented on how beautiful they all were and how different they all were from each other. They also saw Meerkats through the glass and Otters being fed up close.

The next enclosure housed Birds of Prey, there were Snowy Owls, Tawny owls and Barn owls! The day ended with a lovely picnic for the group, the home cook had prepared them some yummy snacks which they enjoyed alongside a cup of tea, before heading to the gift shop.

All the ladies appreciated the trip, with Freda saying “I loved it all!”  The visit was most beneficial for Mavis, since being at the home Mavis hasn’t got involved in many group activities but instead has enjoyed one to one sessions and her own company. Coming along on this trip allowed her to mix with the other residents and she told staff “I feel well after getting some fresh air I would like to go on some more trips.”

Her family were thrilled to hear that she’d not only left her room but had gone on a trip outside of the home, “we can see how much she’s enjoyed it and it’s had such a positive impact, not only on her but on the whole family,” they stated.
