Great-Great-Grandmother with Sweet Tooth Celebrates 105th Birthday
On Saturday 23rd April, Hilda Booth, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother to thirty-five children altogether, celebrated her 105th birthday with family and close friends at Loxley Lodge care home in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. The celebration took place in the home’s specially designed vintage tearoom, which holds much charm and is popular with the residents. There was a buffet of sandwiches, coffee and a birthday cake topped with assorted liquorice for Hilda’s sweet tooth. Hilda was one of thirteen children and she grew up not far from the home in Carrington, Nottingham, where she attended Carrington Junior School. Hilda married John Edward Booth, a train driver, and they had two daughters of their own. She has six grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren, many of whom attended the party on Saturday. Hilda’s daughter Jean, who works as a Care Assistant at Loxley Lodge, where her mother has been a resident for three years, commented; “We had a wonderful day this weekend, celebrating my mother’s 105th birthday. Five generations of the family came together to make the day special for my mother, with the addition of many of her friends at the home”. Tuesday 26th April was Hilda’s actual birthday. A telegram from the Queen was delivered to her at the home and she received some sweet treats from the Loxley Lodge team.
