eckington-court-care-home-derbyshire_0.jpgDerbyshire care home, Eckington Court has teamed up with British Hen Welfare Trust and have managed to create their own shed for rescued barn hens.

Resident Kevin is running the project and is enjoying every bit of it, he enjoys being able to have an input and give back to others.

The hens are a great addition to the home as the residents now benefit from freshly laid eggs each morning whilst the hens have a happy new home. Kevin said, "it has really lifted the spirits of people at the home, giving people a reason to get outside and brush away the winter blues as well as having an opportunity to interact with one another. The hens have put a smile on people's faces and what more can you ask for."

The home will also be selling some of the eggs to resident’s friends and families and staff, the money raised from the hens will go towards food and bedding for the hens. The staff are very impressed with the way residents have reacted to the newbies, they all agreed that "it's a fabulous idea and it has really brought the residents together to see some happy laying hens".
