Residents outside enjoying the bagpipes.Residents from Eckington Court Care Home i Sheffield spent their evening celebrating Burns Night!

Family members of residents visited the home and got involved with the fun as the staff put the finishing touches on the excellent programme of activities that they had planned for the day.

A local bagpipe player visited the home and put on a fantastic show for the residents and their families, the pipes could be heard playing no matter where you were in the home. Residents were so impressed with the bagpipe player, they all lined up to get a picture taken with him, “most of the other homes I go to, people just sit around and listen to me, I usually feel like a spare part however here it’s been brilliant to see the staff and residents get involved,” he commented as he posed away.

The celebrations were great fun for everyone however no one was happier than proud Scot Jenny who couldn’t take the smile off her face as she sang ‘Flower of Scotland’ with the staff, “I feel like I’m back in the highlands again,” she expressed.

To get into the Scottish spirit, residents and their families tried some traditional haggis and tatties, everyone was very excited to taste something new and were curious about where the staff had bought it from. The day ended with a good old Scottish themed quiz where everyone was challenged, well everyone except Jenny of course!
