Cherry Trees Nursing Home, Rotherham, is the proud recipient of Centre of Culinary Excellence, a new initiative launched by Orchard Care Homes in 2015. The home’s four kitchen staff, led by experienced chef Lee Walton, will play a key role in continuing to drive up the food standards and expertise within the home, and will provide advice and support to surrounding homes, acting as a centre for best practice and leadership in regards to the mealtime experience. The home must achieve certain criteria to be awarded the accolade. These cover the dining experience within the home, food ratings, a safe and hygienic kitchen, diversity of menu and the consideration of preferences from the residents. Sharron Whaley, Home Manager, said “I am extremely proud of our team of chefs here at Cherry Trees. They are very loyal and dedicated to producing top quality meals, which cater to all our residents needs and preferences, however small. Each member takes time to interact with residents, accepting feedback and requests willingly and embracing ‘resident of the day’, working hard to ensure every meal time is as enjoyable as possible “This award displays the time and effort that our team tirelessly devote to producing tasty and nutritious meals and I am pleased that all their hard work has been recognised.
