Third Sunderland Home to be Rated Good by CQC

Ashlea Mews in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, has received a positive Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which records the home as overall GOOD. Representatives from CQC undertook unannounced visits to the home in March 2017, and the report has rated the home good for being safe, caring, responsive and well-led. The home provides residential care for up to 40 older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The report found the home was a pleasant and friendly environment in which to live, where staff know their residents well and have genuine, caring relationships. There was also a positive mention of robust recruitment and strong and experienced management. Ratings are given based on observations of the home by the unannounced CQC team, and on conversations with staff, residents and their relatives. The report is part of CQC's programme of inspections. Comments include; "They are well trained, if you want anything doing they do it straight away." - visiting relative   "Staff are very knowledgeable here." - visiting social worker   "They are all committed here, I always get to know what has gone on, and I am involved the care plans." – family member Victoria Jones, Home Manager, commented; “I’m very happy that the home has been recognised in this way. We have some very experienced and dedicated staff members, who bring to life the ‘home’ part of care home. They take a great deal of pride in what they do and this is recognition of that work.
