Orchard goes to Graceland!

It’s been a truly Rock ‘n’ Roll week across our 23 care homes! In honour of Elvis week, residents have had a fantastic few days celebrating his life and music with their own live performances, 50s themed lunches and a special visit from the King of Rock and Roll himself. Some of our homes have gone above and beyond in their Elvis week efforts - here’s a quick rundown.

Over at Chatsworth Lodge Care Home in Chesterfield, their Elvis Party was a real hit. By way of an impressive Las Vegas backdrop, silk scarves and masks, everyone really did feel and look the part.

Bruce, featured on the right below, said that he was having a fantastic time and that he appreciated all the hard work that had gone into the wonderful afternoon! After everyone had finished their ‘American Diner’ styled burgers and milkshakes, there was even a special guest appearance for the residents as Home Manager, Zenka, put on her best Elvis impression. Zenka told us that: “Seeing the smiles on their faces when we put on these special activities reminds us why we do what we do… As a huge Elvis fan myself, I loved getting involved with the rockin’ Elvis Party!”

Meanwhile, at Eaton Court Nursing Home in Grimsby, the celebrations went on all week! Residents were treated to a fun-filled Elvis experience, including a Rock ‘n’ Roll afternoon tea, arts and crafts sessions, movie nights and karaoke evenings! A great deal of fun was had by all, with Anne, Home Manager, explaining that “It was important to us that there were a variety of activities for everyone to get involved in because individuality is so important – there was something for everyone!”

Finally, at Langfield Care Home in Middleton, music enthusiast Ronnie went out of his way to dress up as Elvis and perform some of his favourite hits. He had everyone up and dancing with him (especially the ladies) and spread a cheery, vibrant, ‘Elvis Presley’ spirit throughout the home.

Elvis Week was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and represents just one of many examples of our teams coming together to create unique and memorable activities for all of our people to enjoy. A huge thank you in particular to all of our Activities Coordinators and Home Managers who worked so hard to make the week so special and for always going above and beyond for our residents! As Elvis himself once said – “Happiness is knowing you’ve done a good job, whether its professional or it’s just for another person!”.
