Gardening Therapy
It should not to be under estimated just how much a spot of gardening can sooth ones mind and give people a sense of purpose. We are always encouraging our residents, many of whom have been very keen gardeners, to get out when the weather is fine to help plant flowers in our raised beds. Many of our homes have gardening clubs, where several residents work together to plant and cultivate plants for the benefit of everyone. Some have taken it a step further and sought to grow herbs for the kitchen team, who use it to flavour our delicious meals.
Wherever possible our residents contribute to home life - it is what gives our homes a strong sense of community. Whether it is helping out in the garden or helping our housekeepers with a spot of cleaning. If there is something you enjoy, why should being at a care home mean you can no longer do it?!
