Cherry Trees in Rotherham celebrates a positive Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, which records the South Yorkshire care home as OUTSTANDING for care. Representatives from CQC undertook an unannounced visit to the home on 7 February 2017, and the report has rated the home good for being safe, effective, responsive and well-led, and outstanding for caring. The report was extremely positive across all areas, highlighting the staff, who they said without exception ‘showed they were committed to providing a pleasant, caring environment for people who used the service.’ It noted that staff ‘promoted their (residents) independence by helping them make decisions about their daily routine and what they want to do.’ The home operates a family support group, assisting relatives to chat about their situation and offers an opportunity for relatives to talk with others in similar positions. The group has developed and people have become friends with shared interests. The home also supports residents to remain in contact with their relatives who live some distance away from the home, some abroad, using technology such as Skype.  Other initiatives include inviting relatives and friends into the home to share a meal or celebrate specials days, such as birthdays. Ratings are given based on observations of the home by the unannounced CQC team, and on conversations with staff, residents and their relatives. The report is part of CQC's programme of inspections. Comments include; "The staff here treat you well." "The food looks good and smells nice. It is presented nicely." "The staff are very compassionate and kind." “Just five minutes of our time can make a huge different to someone’s life. I try to take a moment out to chat to people, it helps them to feel reassured.” Sharron Whaley, Registered Manager, commented; “We are absolutely delighted by the outcome of this report and it is a real boost for the staff and the families here. Our team works exceptionally hard, they know the individuals within the home and it makes for a positive environment to both live and work in. “We like to celebrate birthdays and resident events, so we will definitely be having a celebration about this. But it won’t make us sit on our laurels. Everyone who works in this home cares about the job that they do and the residents who live here, and that’s the way it should be.” Tracey Tomlinson, Commercial Director, Orchard Care Homes, commented “We are delighted for the home and this is a real first for us. Cherry Trees is a lovely home, there’s always something going on and people genuinely seem happy. We’re really pleased for everyone, and congratulations go to the home.” For regular updates on news in our homes, follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/orchardcarehome/
