Trial in Homes with Cutting Edge Camera Technology

08 March 2016 News
Two care homes in the south of England, Coniston Lodge in Feltham and Beech Court in Romford, are amongst the first in the country to adopt innovative new technology, aimed at enhancing quality care assurance through a new surveillance and monitoring system. Combining the use of cutting edge camera technology and the judgement of experienced independent health and social care professionals, the homes, run by Lifestyle Care in Partnership with Orchard Care Homes, are taking part in a trial over three months. Independent research showed that two-thirds of people would be more likely to choose a care home for a family member if independently monitored surveillance cameras were in place. The system, set-up by Care Protect, incorporates a team of highly trained and experienced health and social care sector personnel, who are licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to monitor the cameras within the homes. Sound and motion sensitive camera equipment is installed throughout the home, which triggers live alerts of any unusual activity to the norm. This could pick up bumps or falls and the alert levels can be altered according to the needs and sensitivity of the resident. Alerts are forwarded to the 24 hour on-call professionals who are monitoring the system, and can determine any response needed. The trial demonstrates a commitment by the Group to excellence in care, and also to promoting open and transparent relationships with all stakeholders. The service underpins a desire to provide care that is of a very high standard. As early adopters of the technology, Lifestyle Care in Partnership with Orchard Care Homes is leading the way and anticipates that the wider health and social care sector will be swift to embrace this for the future.
