Residents from Green Lodge in Teesside have been ‘hengaging’ in a range of spring activities, including welcoming in a group of newly hatched chicks. Residents from the 55-bed home installed an incubator in the home in early spring, after sourcing a number of eggs from local farm company Living Eggs. Once the chicks were born, they resided in the main lounge, giving residents the opportunity to feed and handle them, before they were moved to a local farm. Resident Joan commented, “They are such lovely little creatures, and I was so excited to see them. Nothing quite says spring like baby chicks.” Activity Coordinator Emma Kemp said, “Rearing the chicks from eggs has been a fantastic project to get involved in, with lots of enthusiasm seen from everyone. “We are always looking for new, interactive activities that have a sensory component, which is extremely beneficial to those living with dementia. “Activities like this not only help with socialisation, but also recognition of surroundings. In addition, many of our residents grew up in the surrounding countryside, and so it has helped them to recall many fond memories.” To keep up to date with news from the home, follows us on Facebook and YouTube.
